On Saturday, October 7, from 2-4 p.m., Dr. Kathy Sward, PHD, MPH, RYT-500, will be leading a workshop on the exploration into the physiology of osteoporosis, arthritis, and osteopenia at Sama Yoga, located at 45 Grove St., New Canaan (inside Halo Studios and underneath the New Canaan Racquet Club).
The workshop will focus on teaching ways to enhance healing and decrease discomfort and pain through gentle and therapeutic yoga postures. Participants will be guided slowly and expertly through modified poses designed to improve bone and muscular strength, learning scientific keys and physiological benefits to incorporate a mindful yoga practice into your life.
The workshop will explore joint freeing movement to circulate fluid and stimulate renewal of cartilage, tendons, ligaments and flexibility. There will be an emphasis on balance and posture, and learning how our breathing can decrease the stress response and increase comfort. The workshop will conclude with restorative poses to relax, renew, and rejuvenate. No prior yoga experience is necessary.
The workshop cost is $45 in advance, $55 at the door. To register, call 203-594-7077 or email samayogacenter.com.
