My daughter will be applying to college this year, and while academics are one of the key factors influencing her college choices, she is equally interested in the activities, clubs, and social events that are offered wherever she decides to go. She loves writing, cooking, and politics, so when she’s researching her options, she’s looking at schools that offer those things in which she is interested, as well as other areas that she would like to explore.
It’s not a completely dissimilar process when looking for an assisted living facility for an aging loved one, or for yourself, should the need arise. Certainly, the physical needs of the residents are the main consideration, but it’s also imperative that seniors are happy where they’re living once they’re no longer living in their own home. Just as my daughter is looking to grow and expand her intellectual and extracurricular pursuits, so are senior citizens. We are all seeking to learn and thrive, and this shouldn’t end once we reach a certain age…no matter how old we are, we should be encouraged to enjoy life and pursue our interests.
The options for assisted living facilities today are many and varied, and most seem to offer a comprehensive selection of events and activities to keep residents busy, and feeling challenged and fulfilled. From Casino Night, guest lecture series, and physical fitness programs, to day trips, art and cooking classes, and French lessons, residents can indeed enjoy their golden years, and here is a sampling of some options.
